# Getting started

## 1. Check your plan

The MCP server is available on the Base and Pro plans. On the Free plan, every tool call returns the error `Your plan does not include API access.` You can upgrade from the **Usage** page in the dashboard.

## 2. Create an API token

1. Log in to PROlinks.
2. Open **Settings > API Tokens**.
3. Click **New API Token**.
4. Type a name that tells you where you use the token, for example `Claude Code on my laptop`.
5. Click **Generate Token**.
6. Copy the token.

> **Warning:** PROlinks shows the token only one time. Keep it in a safe place. Anyone with the token can manage your links.

The token is the same kind of token that the [REST API](/docs/rest-api) uses. You can delete it at any time from the same page. When you delete a token, every client that uses it loses access immediately.

## 3. Connect your client

Add the server to your MCP client with these two values:

| Setting | Value |
| --- | --- |
| URL | `https://prolinks.pro/mcp/prolinks` |
| Header | `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_TOKEN` |

[Connect a client](/docs/mcp/connect-a-client) gives the exact steps for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and VS Code.

## 4. Try it

Ask your assistant:

> List my PROlinks domains.

The assistant calls the `list-domains-tool` tool and shows your domains. Then try:

> Create a short link to https://example.com/pricing on my first domain, with utm_campaign "spring-sale".

For more ideas, read [Example prompts](/docs/mcp/example-prompts).
